INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE.
Image color
palette extractor.
Extract up to five colors from JPG, PNG or WebP images locally in your browser. Copy HEX colors, inspect color shares and refine the palette.
The possibilities are in the picture.
Choose a photograph, illustration or moodboard. We’ll find up to five representative colors with perceptual clustering.
Your image never leaves your device.
FROM A COLOR TO A CLEAR DECISION
Extract colors from an image without sending it away
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image to extract up to five representative colors. Palunio processes the file in your browser, shows approximate cluster shares and lets you continue editing the result in the palette studio.
How to use this tool
- Choose or drop an image up to 10 MB. Use the built-in color study if you want to try extraction before choosing a file.
- Inspect the extracted HEX colors and approximate shares. Copy an individual color or send the set into the palette studio.
- Refine the result for its intended use. Assign roles, test contrast and export a reusable palette; dominant image colors are not automatically suitable UI colors.
What a dominant-color extractor can and cannot tell you
Palunio downsamples the image to at most 128 × 128 pixels, ignores pixels with alpha below 0.5, and groups the remaining samples with twelve k-means iterations in OKLab. Large color regions tend to produce larger clusters. A small logo or accent can be missed even if it is important to the composition.
The shares describe the sampled clusters, not an exact census of every original pixel. Semi-transparent pixels above the cutoff are treated by their decoded RGB values. Browser decoding and embedded image profiles can affect the result.
For a more useful brand starting point, crop out irrelevant borders before extracting. Keep the original asset and its permissions separate: extracting colors does not grant rights to reuse the photograph or artwork itself.

Common questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Decoding, sampling and clustering happen in this browser. The original image is not stored in the palette library or included in exports.
Why do I get fewer than five colors?
An image with only a few distinct color regions may produce fewer clusters. When you send it to the five-slot studio, remaining slots repeat extracted colors.
Why is a small accent missing?
The extractor represents the overall sampled distribution. Small details may disappear during downsampling or merge into another cluster. Crop closer to the detail or add its color manually.
